Position Description

 

 

POSITION TITLE:         Substitute Teacher

 

FLSA:                            Exempt Professional

 

QUALIFICATIONS:      Verification of 60 college credits from an appropriately accredited college/university

 

REPORTS TO:             Director of Human Resources

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Daily/Hourly contracted services for the current school year.

                            

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.

  2. Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.

  3. Ensure that district policy are observed during all activities.

  4. Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.

  5. Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times. 

  6. Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm, and tornado warning procedures.  Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.

  7. Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

  8. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances.  Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.

  9. Report for duty 30 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:      

 

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.

  2. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  3. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

  4. Leave detailed notes for the teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
  5. Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or the Substitute Office

     

 PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gymnasium, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 30 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members, and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.
