Job Title: Science Learning Facilitator

Location: Buford Middle School

Reports to: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Summary:

We are seeking a Science Learning Facilitator who will be responsible for providing instructional support to science teachers, developing and implementing effective science curriculum, and promoting student-centered, hands-on learning with a focus on increasing student achievement in Science. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science education, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to use data to drive instruction.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide support to science teachers to improve instructional practices and student learning outcomes.
  • Teach sessions of a science course as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers in other subject areas to identify opportunities for integrating science concepts and skills into their instruction.
  • Work closely with specialists to ensure that science instruction is accessible to all students. 
  • Develop and implement science curriculum aligned with state and national standards, utilizing best practices in instruction and assessment.
  • Access resources, collect data, provide feedback, and model and/or co-teach lessons in classrooms as requested.
  • Design and facilitate professional development workshops and training sessions for science teachers.
  • Collaborate with science teachers to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to address them.
  • Analyze student data to identify trends and areas of need, and adjust instruction and curriculum accordingly.
  • Create spiral review materials to reinforce science concepts.
  • Foster a student-centered learning environment that promotes hands-on, inquiry-based learning and scientific reasoning skills.
  • Communicate regularly with school leaders and teachers to share progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assists in the implementation, refinement, and evaluation of the District-provided science curriculum. 
  • Attend PLC meetings and Department meetings.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Coordinates and participates in school-wide and district-wide events (such as Back to School Night, Open House, and Committees). 
  • Create and organize resources and materials for science instruction, including technology tools and laboratory equipment.
  • Inventory, track, refurbish, and maintain all science materials and equipment.
  • Attend science education conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with current trends and research in science education and share with staff.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by building administrators.

 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of state and national science standards, as well as instructional best practices.
  • Commitment to student-centered, hands-on learning and inquiry-based instruction.
  • Experience in instructional coaching, curriculum development, and data-driven instruction.
  • Ability to design and implement professional development workshops and training sessions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Skills in building collaborative relationships with principals and with teachers at all levels of experience.
  • Knowledge and experience using a variety of assessment tools and analyzing student data.
  • Ability to maintain relationships, which are supportive of both teachers and administrators, with student learning as the focus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Experience with technology tools and laboratory equipment used in science instruction.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science Education, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • A valid Virginia teaching license and at least three years of successful classroom experience.
  • Preferred Supervision and Administration endorsement.

 

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members, and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. 

 

Evaluation:

The Science Learning Facilitator is evaluated by the principal.
