POSITION TITLE: Substitute Custodian(s)
FLSA: Non-exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Ability to perform the essential job functions
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Effective grooming skills
- Ability to lift 55 pounds to shoulder height occasionally
- Ability to push / pull a minimum of 20 pounds frequently
REPORTS TO: Building Head Custodian
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform major cleaning tasks such as vacuuming (using a 20 lb. vacuum daily for 3-4 hours), wet-mopping, sweeping, dusting, emptying trash (lifting waste paper and debris - minimum of 55 lbs.) and pencil sharpeners, cleaning chalkboards and disinfecting drinking fountains.
- Clean restrooms, including floors and all fixtures (i.e.: urinals, toilets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and counters). Ensure restrooms are clean and disinfected.
- Wash windows and sills (door glass).
- Perform ongoing tasks such as replacing light bulbs (climb ladders up to a height of 6 feet), filling dispensers, and setting up facilities for student and adult use (lifting furniture, boxes, and cafeteria tables-minimum of 55 lbs.).
- Make minor building repairs and promptly report major repairs to the Head Custodian.
- Work overtime and on weekends as necessary to meet District events and facility schedules.
- Ensure that all doors and windows are appropriately locked.
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs frequently, as well as regular bending and standing as needed in a daily shift.
- Assist in major summer clean-up such as washing desks and chairs, washing down walls, stripping and waxing floors, etc.
- Keep grounds free of rubbish and in winter shovel snow from steps and sidewalks and apply ice melt when appropriate.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration and the general public.
- Submit all data and information as requested.
- Regularly monitor district email for pertinent communication.
- Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and Division Administrators.
- Complete requested paperwork.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory health condition in order to meet the physical requirements of the job. Negative drug screening and negative tuberculin test required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must demonstrate professional communication skills when interacting with students, parents, school staff and co-workers. Must be able to follow direction, work independently, perform basic math to include computation of dilution ratios towards the proper mixture of cleaning solutions; ability to use personal computer and email applications, and operate industrial cleaning maintenance equipment. Must work well in a team setting, demonstrate effective communication skills and positive customer service skills. Must exercise good judgment and balance needs of various customer user-groups. Ability to coordinate work activities, handle complaints, expresses a service-oriented attitude and to get along with others is essential.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:
Work is typically performed walking, standing, bending or reaching and is physically repetitive. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds continuously, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Occasionally exposed to extreme temperatures, and weather conditions such as snow and ice. May be exposed to potentially hazardous substances. Flexible shift work required, weekend work may be required. Daily contact with teachers, students, administration, the general public and other person.
