POSITION TITLE: Gifted Education Specialist
FLSA: Exempt
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold or be eligible for a VA teaching license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Endorsement in gifted education or a documented plan with willingness to pursue full endorsement in Gifted Education.
- At least three years of successful teaching experience, preferably with gifted learners
- Knowledge of the nature and needs of the gifted child, cultural responsiveness
- Ability to design and apply instructional strategies on differentiation
- Ability to design and deliver professional learning opportunities tailored to the needs of the staff
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
New teachers 203 days; returning teachers 200 days with benefits provided according to the Teacher’s Contract or Appointment Letter
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitates the personal, social and intellectual development of students
- Designs and implements appropriate differentiated learning experiences that integrate with the general education program
- Provides direct consultation with general education teachers on specialized instructional techniques that support differentiated learning
- Assists with the design and implementation of workshops and/or trainings focusing on
- Assessing the needs and abilities of gifted and potentially gifted students and
- Providing appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction
- Assists with referral, assessment, and identification of gifted students
- Monitors progress and addresses issues/concerns; maintains accurate lists of referred, assessed, and identified students
- Assists with the dissemination of information about gifted education services
- Communicates effectively with all members of the school division and community
- Remains current on research and best practices in gifted education
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abides by state statutes, school board policies and regulations
- Attends meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation
- Serves on committees as assigned
