POSITION TITLE:   Gifted Education Specialist

 

FLSA:     Exempt

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  1. Must hold or be eligible for a VA teaching license.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Endorsement in gifted education or a documented plan with willingness to pursue full endorsement in Gifted Education.
  • At least three years of successful teaching experience, preferably with gifted learners
  • Knowledge of the nature and needs of the gifted child, cultural responsiveness
  • Ability to design and apply instructional strategies on differentiation
  • Ability to design and deliver professional learning opportunities tailored to the needs of the staff

REPORTS TO:  Principal and/or other Supervisor

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

New teachers 203 days; returning teachers 200 days with benefits provided according to the Teacher’s Contract or Appointment Letter

                            

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Facilitates the personal, social and intellectual development of students
  2. Designs and implements appropriate differentiated learning experiences that integrate with the general education program
  3. Provides direct consultation with general education teachers on specialized instructional techniques that support differentiated learning
  4. Assists with the design and implementation of workshops and/or trainings focusing on
    1. Assessing the needs and abilities of gifted and potentially gifted students and
    2. Providing appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction
  5. Assists with referral, assessment, and identification of gifted students
  6. Monitors progress and addresses issues/concerns; maintains accurate lists of referred, assessed, and identified students
  7. Assists with the dissemination of information about gifted education services
  8. Communicates effectively with all members of the school division and community
  9. Remains current on research and best practices in gifted education

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

  1. Abides by state statutes, school board policies and regulations
  2. Attends meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors
  3. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  4. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation
  5. Serves on committees as assigned
