POSITION TITLE:         Extending the Bridges of Literacy (EBL) Teacher

 

FLSA:                            Exempt Professional

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                 

  • Valid Virginia Teaching License or eligible to hold a VA teaching license.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of literacy development and appropriate literacy instructional practices.

 

REPORTS TO:             Building administration

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Teacher’s Work Calendar and benefits as defined in the Teacher's Contract or Appointment Letter.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:      

 

To provide targeted literacy intervention to small groups of primary students three days a week using specific curriculum resources.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide research-based, direct instruction in small intervention groups for the intervention time.
  2. Plan appropriate lessons which work specifically on fluency, comprehension, and phonological awareness activities tailored to the specific needs of students.
  3. Attend mandatory training as needed on facets of the instructional lesson plan diet.
  4. Administer assessments four times throughout the year to monitor progress in fluency.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Keep accurate attendance for all students attending EBL.
  2. Exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.
  3. Strive to improve professional competence.
  4. Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
  5. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  6. Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the EBL program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge and practice of Culturally Responsive Teaching strategies required and bilingual in English and another World Language preferred.

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gymnasium, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members, and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.
