Job Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer (Part-time, .5)

Location: Charlottesville High School

Reports to:  Head Athletic Trainer

FLSA Status: Exempt (Hourly funded Position) 

 

Primary Functon:

 

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for preventing and treating athletic injuries under the parameters of the Virginia State license. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is directly involved in the phases of health care of the athletes including injury prevention, injury evaluation, documentation, immediate first aid care, referral, treatment, and rehabilitation. The Assistant Athletic Trainer assists coaches by advising and treating athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness.

Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions; specific skills include adhering to safety practices, administering first aid and CPR; operating standard office equipment with pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions; specific knowledge includes age appropriate activities and health standards and hazards; ability to schedule a significant number of activities, meets and/or events; gather, collate and/or classify data; use of job-related equipment; flexibility to independently work with others in a variety of situations; ability to work is a significantly diversity of individuals and/or groups; independent problem solving to analyze issues and create action plans; using data for independent interpretation of guidelines; specific abilities include developing and maintaining effective relationships, especially school aged students; displaying tact and courtesy; adapting to changing work priorities;  communication with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as a part of a team; and working with numerous interruptions

 

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job require the following physical demands:  lifting, carrying, pulling and pushing; some climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job required 40% sitting, 30% walking and 30% standing.  The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.

 

Evaluation:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is evaluated by the Athletic Director.
